MUNICH/FRANKFURT, Germany – July 16, 2026 – Munich Airport partners with Sittig Technologies to pilot next-generation wireless audio across six gates in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 – starting 14th July 2026.
Munich Airport is taking a significant step towards more accessible and personalized passenger communication. Together with technology partner Sittig Technologies GmbH, Munich Airport is launching a Bluetooth Auracast pilot at six gates across Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 – enabling passengers to receive live airport announcements directly through their own hearing aids, headphones or earbuds.
The pilot will go live on 14th July 2026.
A New Way to Hear Your Gate
Auracast is a new Bluetooth audio broadcasting standard that allows airports to send announcements directly to passengers’ compatible personal devices. Instead of relying only on loudspeakers, airports can make gate announcements available on hearing aids, cochlear implants, earbuds, and headphones that support Auracast.
For passengers, the process is simple. Android users can scan a QR code displayed at the gate or select the stream directly from the Bluetooth menu and listen to the announcement stream on their device. iOS users can also access Auracast streams through third-party apps.
A key advantage is that passengers do not have to stop what they are already listening to. On compatible Android devices, Auracast announcements can fade in over music, podcasts, or other audio, and then fade out again once the announcement is finished.
This is especially valuable for passengers with hearing loss. Announcements can be delivered clearly and directly to compatible hearing aids or cochlear implants, without the need for additional hardware at the gate. It also avoids many of the limitations of traditional hearing loop systems.
Auracast is not only an accessibility improvement. It also makes airport communication easier for all travellers. Passengers can keep their earphones in and still receive important information, while those in noisy terminal areas can hear announcements clearly without struggling to understand them over background noise.
Pilot Scope: Six Gates Across Both Terminals
The pilot covers six gates across Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 at Munich Airport:
Terminal 1: Gates A42/A43 and A44/A45 (Pier A)
Terminal 2: Gates G31 and G32
At each gate, QR codes will be displayed allowing passengers to instantly connect their smartphone to the Auracast audio stream. Compatible hearing aids, cochlear implants, earbuds, and headphones can connect automatically without any additional steps.
“Munich Airport is the ideal partner to take Auracast to the next level in German aviation. This pilot builds on our experience at Frankfurt Airport and marks an important milestone in making Bluetooth broadcast audio a new standard for passenger communication.”
