Straight to the Ear: Real-Time Transcription and Wireless Audio Transmission for All Travelers
How can announcements at airports or train stations be designed so that every passenger receives the information—regardless of language, hearing ability, or background noise? This is the focus of a new research project by Sittig Technologies in cooperation with the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences.
As part of the Distr@l program funded by the Hessian Ministry for Digital Strategy and Development, Sittig is developing two pioneering technologies:
Speech-to-Text:
Manual announcements are automatically captured, transcribed, and displayed as text on screens, mobile devices, or apps within seconds. AI-driven translations allow instant output in multiple languages—a major step toward accessibility and international communication.
Bluetooth® Auracast™ Audio Transmission:
Manual and automated announcements can be transmitted directly and synchronously to headphones, hearing aids, or smartphones. Passengers select the relevant channel and receive clear information—independent of loudspeakers or ambient noise.
“Until now, there have been no truly convincing solutions on the market. With transcription and Bluetooth Auracast, we are creating a system that enables genuine inclusion—for all passengers,”
says Johannes Sittig, CEO of Sittig Technologies Inc.
Barrier-free passenger announcements
The project “Barrier-Free Digital Passenger Announcements” runs until September 2026 and is funded by the Hessian Ministry for Digital Strategy and Development. The close cooperation between business and academia ensures that the latest scientific insights flow directly into development, resulting in practical solutions that can be deployed worldwide.
